Jérôme Naulais offers us an arrangement of "Black eyes" for quartet (plus bass voice ad. lib.).

7820Black eyesBlack eyes, and a gypsy jazz standard.
The lyrics are written in 1843 by Ukrainian romantic poet poet Yevhen Hrebinka (1812-1848), dedicated to his first wife Maria Vasilyevna. The poem was published for the first time in the Russian literary gazette Literatournaïa gazeta on 17 January 1843. Very moving music, full of joy, of joy, of melancholy, and nostalgia, is inspired by a waltz by the Russian-German composer Florian Hermann, with arrangements by Serguey Gerdel, published on 7 March 1884, whose original scores have been lost.

Russian opera singer and actor Fedor Chaliapin (1873-1938) popularizes the song abroad with its own version. The most famous musical version of this song was written by Adalgiso Ferraris, and published, when he was still in Russia after 1910, with the German publisher Otto Kuhl. Then Ferraris published it again at Éditions Salabert in Paris, under the title "Your black eyes (russian print) "With Jacques Liber, in England, le 9 October 1931. An old example of Ferraris music is recorded in the Pathé archives, en 1932, by violinist Albert Sandler.

In instrumental version, 7846Black eyesBlack eyest; Art Tatum also gave a trio version (Dark eyes).
