He studied music with many teachers in Central Europe and particularly in Berlin with Siegfried Dehn, a former student of Beethoven. It is influenced by Germany, France and Italy where he stayed in 1830 and 1833 but returned to Russia, he decided to build a new harmony based on the peculiarities of Russian folk songs. It appears as the founder of the Russian school. The practice of Glinka was indeed a dramatic dimension that announces Mussorgsky and Rimsky-Korsakov. He was also a contemporary and friend of Pushkin and Gogol, encouraged the young Balakirev's musical career and was the model and the direct inspiration of the Group of Five.
