Saxophonist, composer and conductor, Rene Nicolas, better known as "Mickey" Nicolas was born January 18, 1926 in Laon. As a child he was attracted by the painting, but at the age of twelve he was "converted" to music by a country priest who introduced him to Bach chorales on the harmonium. At fifteen, he graduated from soprano saxophone music at school and then at Reims, he studied at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Paris where he obtained a First Prize of Saxophone in the class of the famous professor and virtuoso Marcel Mule in 1945. Mickey then began a career as an orchestral musician who leads in many clubs, nightclubs, casinos and is even part of the circus orchestra of the popular television show "The circus performer". After many wanderings that took him in Monaco, Geneva, Lisbon, Brazil and Canada, he settled in Paris where he worked, among others, Michel Legrand, Eddy Barclay, Francis Lai, Claude Bolling and Jacques Brel. Self-taught composer, Mickey Nicolas is a member of SACEM since 1944. From 1977 to 1990 he was second conductor of the famous Parisian cabaret "Le Lido". Mickey has participated in numerous recordings and television alongside international stars such as Quincy Jones, Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong. He has composed music for ten films, including "the 12 Tasks of Asterix", some 120 pieces for cabaret shows and variety shows and television shows and music for ballets and songs.
