Michel LEGRAND
Michel Legrand, born February 24, 1932 at Becon les Bruyeres (near Paris), is a composer, director, actor and screenwriter French of Armenian descent living in the Valais. He is the son of composer Raymond Legrand (1908-1974), brother of singer Christiane Legrand and nephew of conductor Jacques Hélian. It is also the father of Eugenie Angot French international rider. Legrand has composed more than 200 frames for film and television, several musicals, and has, to his credit over 100 albums. He won three Oscars (out of 13 nominations), five Grammys and was nominated for an Emmy. At age 22, he released his debut album I Love Paris, became one of the best sellers of all time for instrumental albums. Virtuoso jazz, classical pianist and accomplished composer, he has performed with leading orchestras worldwide, including those of St. Petersburg, Vancouver, Montreal, Atlanta and Denver. He has recorded over 100 albums with various different areas of international stars like Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Jack Jones, Tereza Kesovija, Regine Velasquez, Ella Fitzgerald, Perry Como, Lena Horne, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, James Ingram, Johnny Mathis , Barbra Streisand, Nana Mouskouri, Mireille Mathieu, Claude Challe or Laura Figy. In the early 1950s, Michel Legrand was one of the first Europeans to work with rising stars of jazz, including Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Stan Getz and Bill Evans.
