Born in 1963, Madeleine Caillasse obtained at the age of twenty, as a pianist, her National Diploma of Superior Musical Studies at the CNSM in Lyon.

Between 1983 and 1986, she perfected (in a repertoire ranging from Bach to M.Ohana) with Jean-Claude Pennetier, whose influence will be capital in her musical development. Its capabilities and its attraction for contemporary music is then confirmed. In 1986, she performed, among others, the solo piano part of Messiaen's Exotic Birds.

Then her deep attraction to German romance, anchored in her from her adolescence, and her passion for Schumann

in particular, naturally led her to make numerous stays in Germany between 1988 and 1990. This is how she took part, among other things, in an accompaniment course for Lieder, in Düsseldorf, with Erik Werba.

The meeting with Edith Picht-Axenfeld will be the most striking. Mainly during various Master-classes, she deepens with her the interpretation of Bach and especially works by Schönberg (especially Op. 23 and 33 performed in concert). Like J.-C. Pennetier, Edith Picht encourages her as a contemporary performer and composer and encourages her to attend specialized festivals.

In 1990, she participated:
- at the concerts of the “Villa Musica” in Mainz, performing the Suite op. 29 from Schönberg
with Ernó Sebestyén, Martin Ostertag, Ulf Rodenhäuser;
- at the “Internationalen Ferienkurse für Neue Musik” in Darmstadt.

Her vocation as a composer and her creative activity date back to the beginning of her adolescence. Very young, she followed, at the conservatory of Chambéry, the courses of the musicologist from Lyon Daniel Gaudet in the history of the music and analysis, in-depth subjects as complementary disciplines during her studies at the CNSMDL. She chose not to take any composition course, preferring to seek her own path on her own.

Tonal pieces but of varied styles (collection of 12 pieces entitled Klass’Ambiance /
Remembrance) will soon be followed by others based on very personal research. This will lead her to forge an original language, the various facets of which she explores through her mature works subtitled Game of Keys (Tightrope Harmonies, When the colorless lights up with ephemeral hues ...). Language combining coherence with constant emotion. Quest for a concentrated, deep and intense discourse, where colors predominate, expressiveness of intervals, harmonic richness, suspenseful resonances and nostalgic clarity.

In 1998, she received an Honorary Diploma at the Torneo Internazionale di Musica - Roma composition competition, for her two piano pieces:
- Set of keys, performed in 2000 at the “Seconda Rassegna Internazionale di Composizione Alfeo Gigli” in Bologna;
- Symmetry (dedicated to the Swiss pianist Charles Dobler) and interpreted in 2008 by Marylise Fourmeau during the "XX-XXI Days of the CPMA" "in Annecy (artistic direction Sophie Lacaze).

Being attached to aesthetic renewal (even if this process often requires a long maturing), as well as to the intimacy of the musical discourse, she focuses on compositions for her instrument and for reduced formations of chamber music.
Sometimes autobiographical elements slip into it, as evidenced by his piece for flute in G and piano Au pied d´une stele. This constitutes a singularity in Madeleine Caillasse's writing, usually much more complex and diverse. The performers, by sharing and exchanging the elements of a modal discourse, deliberately stripped down, can be particularly inspired if they think of certain canvases (representing two characters united in an evening contemplation) by C.D. Friedrich.

In 2020, she begins recording her own compositions in the studio.

Since 1992 (mainly in Annecy), she has also been very involved in her teaching (piano, chamber music, piano composition), while participating in various concerts.
