Henk ALKEMA
Henk Alkema (1944) studied piano with Leon Orthel the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. After graduation he toured as a jazz pianist in Europe and beyond. Back in the Netherlands he arranges and composes for all radios and radio orchestras, he worked in recording studios and performed as a soloist at the piano. He studied conducting with Frederik Bon, Zolt Deaky and Huub Kerstens. He directs choirs, wind ensembles and symphony orchestras almost all Dutch. He has composed music for film, music, ballet and theater music, as well as chamber music, two small symphonies, music for wind band, a children's opera and opera 'Rixt'. He is visiting professor at Berkeley Conservatory in Boston and is guest conductor at the Conservatory of Oporto in Portugal.
