William Lekeu (Heusy, January 20, 1870 - Los Angeles, January 21, 1894) is a Belgian composer. He received his first music lessons from the director of the Music Conservatory of Verviers. In 1879 his parents moved to Poitiers. He attended high school, while pursuing his musical studies as an autodidact. C is also at Poitiers that he composed his first works, at the age of fifteen years. In 1888 the family moved to Paris. He was then a pupil of Cesar Franck, and after his death, Vincent d'Indy. In 1891 he won second prize in the competition for the Prix de Rome with his cantata Belgium Andromeda, which appeared also contests his compatriot Albert Dupuis VERVIETOIS. The great virtuoso violinist Eugene Ysaye asked him to compose a sonata for piano and violin that he played in March 1893 sonata which remains the most famous CARRYING composer. Reached Lekeu died of typhus at the age of twenty-four years. He is buried in the cemetery Heusy (Verviers).
