Giacomo MEYERBEER
![]() Giacomo Meyerbeer (born in Berlin Sept. 5, 1791 and died in Paris May 2, 1864), whose real name was Jakob Liebmann Beer, was a German composer (who lived much of his life in France). He was the son of a wealthy Jewish banker. His brothers are the astronomer William Beer, and the poet Michael Beer. Giacomo Meyerbeer Lauska studied with Clementi and then with Zelter and Anselm Weber for composition, and finally with the Abbe Vogler, who completes the form. He had a companion study of Carl Maria von Weber. His early operas are a failure, whether in Berlin or Vienna. In 1816, on the advice of Salieri, and in the hope of one day crowned a career in Paris, he went to Italy, where he discovers the music of Rossini. He wrote six Italian operas, the last, He Crociato in Egitto, 1824, represented in London and Paris, assures him fame throughout Europe. It s then settled in Paris in 1825 and in 1827 Meyerbeer began a fruitful collaboration with Scribe. These standards were jointly the first, Robert the Devil, was created in Paris in 1831 with great success, and lays the groundwork for what would become the Grand Opera, new genus where many composers now feel compelled to prove themselves. With the other six works written for the French capital (including The African, created after the death of its author, in 1865), Meyerbeer has set for the long guns of the "grand opera" and s is provided throughout the preeminence of his career in this genre: the young Wagner slavishly imitate before s in free; Verdi himself shall abide by the rules laid down dramatic that he had, when he wrote to Paris. The French composer's career, only interrupted by a visit to Berlin, d miserable elsewhere, from 1842 to 1848, demonstrated a remarkable longevity of. Although famous throughout Europe in the 1830s, his fame after his death, was quickly overshadowed, particularly by Wagner and his works have gradually disappeared from the directory. The hard and too few rare occasions, however, have prevented his works from falling into oblivion completely unjustified, and allowed the public to better take the modern measure of its importance in the evolution of processes and dramatic in the history of opera. Indeed, in his work, however, mainly the French part of its production, is a carefully crafted design of a particular type of grand opera in which all reports are carefully weighed balance. His success did not happen by accident, but the consequence of a real genius that it is high time that we rediscover. He composed sixteen operas, including Robert the Devil, Les Huguenots, L'Africaine and The Prophet. He often uses the leitmotif of principle, which was perfected by Wagner. Among the main features of the great opera conceived by Meyerbeer, the most notable is probably the place given to interpreters. In all his work, the choice of the latter is crucial and even decisive for the development of the booklet. The composer spent most of his travels to audition new singers, and if one of those he had hired to break his contract, he hesitated no tinkering with the relevant role for adapting to the new interpreter or to stop work on an opera if no actor seemed appropriate. His music is recognized in Freemasonry. [1] Alleurs, Meyerbeer paticulièrement loved the spa town of Spa and stayed there many times. He made frequent reference in his diary. City Spa ériga him a monument. Google machine translation: Giacomo MEYERBEER's original bio |
