Gérard BOEDIJN



Boedijn Gerard was born in Hoorn (Netherlands) November 19, 1893.  It begins very early to study music (violin, percussion and wind).  Special studies in Amsterdam: main branch violin and viola with Fiedler and Togui; theory with Fierie, harmony, counterpoint, composition and instrumentation with Zweers and Kint and later with Professor Smulders (cork); composition for choir and direction with Roerke; history music with von Milligen, ensemble playing with Rontgen and Mossel.  After graduation, he taught in a school of violin music, ensemble playing and theory subjects in Maastricht.  Later he worked in his hometown as a teacher, composer and leader of choirs, oratorio societies and bodies, which led him to work in other cities also.  From 1927 to 1932, he was director of the municipal school of music, body music, symphony orchestra and male choir, etc..  in Veendam. From 1932 to date, it performs functions of Dean in Hoorn.  Since 1940 he is permanent member of the jury-college and the board of Music for the Royal Netherlands Harmony and Fanfare and is also examiner.  He also works has filed with the Association of Directors of the orchestra in the Netherlands, member of international jury France, Germany, Federal).  From 1938, he composed dozens of original works for wind and Harmony, edited by 'N. V.  Molenaar's Muziekcentrale 'Wormerveer (Netherlands).  Universal success for composer and publisher of the work giving new life to the directories of body amateur national and international, particularly due to an increase in the degree of difficulty of the different sections.  Boedijn-grading composed numerous works for chorus, singing, chimes, symphony orchestras and string chamber music, wind quintet and trio, brass quartet, saxophone quartet etc..  Since 1950, it conducts research sponsored by the government, the province, radio and other institutions.  Many of his works were also crowned, notably in Belgium, after composition competition.  A state price and the "Vissers-Neerlandiaprijs' in 1958 to carillon music and especially for an original work for carillon four octaves and harmonic orchestra, composed for the association of Dutch carillon.  In 1959, Gerard Boedijn gets the royal distinction 'Ridder in de orde van Oranje Nassau' for the pioneering work he has done as a composer of band music and marching band.  He led for several years on behalf of the radio, the 'Nederlands Koperorkest' (professional musicians).  It is also know as a writer and lecturer on music for wind instruments.  He has spent the last years of his life composing and work in examination boards.
