Francois Adrien Boieldieu, born December 16, 1775 in Rouen and died October 8, 1834 in Varennes-Jarcy, is a French composer. Artist born in the Old Regime, Boieldieu made his arms during the Terror, to fame during the Consulate and Empire, was honored by the Bourbons and then ruined by the Revolution of July. It remains the principal French composer of operas of the first quarter of the nineteenth century. Boieldieu was introduced to music by the choirmaster and organist of the Notre-Dame de Rouen. The Revolution did not curbed the activity of the musical theater of Rouen, who continued to present the works of young authors such Etienne Nicolas Mehul. During the Terror, Rouen was even one of the few cities to maintain a significant musical activity and, in 1793, several concerts were organized with the famous violinist and tenor Garat Rode. Boieldieu composed his first works while on texts written by his father, Daughter guilty in 1793 and Rosalie and Mirza in 1795, which brought him immediate success. During the revolutionary period, Boieldieu left for Paris and carefully installed himself as a piano tuner. Only the comic opera then offered opportunities for these hybrid works, near the opera, but with spoken dialogue. The most typical CARRYING is Cherubini's Medea (1797). The comic opera, traditionally represented at the Salle Favart, was also performed at the theater in 1789 and Sir, in 1791, moved into a new theater, the Theatre Feydeau, previously reserved for the cast of the opera buffa. During ten years, the troops of Favart and Feydeau was competed with, Favart multiplying shows featuring patriotic and lighter works of Mehul, Feydeau offering rather heroic dramas of Cherubini and Lesueur. In 1797 Boieldieu offered to Feydeau and The Swiss Family Happy New. In 1798, he suggested to Favart Zoraime and Zulmare. The success was overwhelming. Spiritual son of Gretry, Boieldieu favored melodies without unnecessary ornaments he showed off with a small but neat instrumentation and spiritual dialogues. Berlioz attributed to his music a "Parisian elegance of good taste that pleases". In 1800, he won a triumph with the Caliph of Baghdad. In 1804 he moved to St. Petersburg to serve as court composer of the Tsar until 1810. He composed nine operas, Aline, Queen of Golconda (1804) and cars paid (1820). Back in France, he regained the Parisian public with the angry young woman (1811), Jean de Paris (1812), The New Lord of the village (1813) and a dozen other works. In 1825 he published his chief-of embodiment, the White Lady, recovery Salle Favart in 1997 and recorded under the direction of Marc Minkowski. Based on a novel by Walter Scott unusual at that time, the book is built on the theme of the lost child and fortunately recognized in extremis. The style of this opera was repeated for Lucia di Lammermoor, I Puritani and The prettiest girl in Perth. Recognized as one of the first attempts to introduce the fantastic opera, The White Lady was also a model for opera Robert le Diable or Faust. Boieldieu became professor of composition at the Paris Conservatory and in 1817 succeeded Mehul at the Academy of Fine Arts of the Institut de France. He received the Legion of Honor in 1820. His next opera, The Two Nights (1829) was admired by Wagner, who praised "the vitality and natural grace of the French spirit" and who was inspired by a bed of hearts for the "march of engagement" from Lohengrin. Boieldieu gradually lost the use of speech, probably because of laryngeal cancer. The bankruptcy of the Opera-Comique and the Revolution of 1830 added to his misery. Order to avoid misery, Thiers him a pension of 6000 francs from the State. On 25 September 1834, he made his last public appearance for the first of the Chalet of Adolphe Adam. Shortly before his death, he had the elegance to pass the torch to his brilliant pupil. A college named after him in Rouen. The seventh crossing the Seine at Rouen also bears his name.
