Enrique GRANADOS
Enrique Granados y Campiña (in Catalan Enric) (born July 27, 1867 at Lerida died March 24, 1916, at sea) is a Spanish composer and pianist. Precocious pupil, he studied piano in Barcelona under the direction of Francisco Jurnet and Joan Batista Pujo, who also counted among his pupils Isaac Albeniz. Granados won first prize in piano at the Conservatory of Barcelona in 1883. It will also study composition with Felipp Pedrell, before leaving Spain in 1887 to travel to Paris where he attended classes at Charles de Beriot. There he meets the last generation of French composers Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, Paul Dukas, d'Indy, Camille Saint-Saens, etc.. He returned to live in Barcelona in 1889 to begin an illustrious career as a performer and composer. He gave his first recital in 1890. Thereafter, he will share the stage with many celebrities of the time, many of whose names are still familiar: Eugene Ysaye, Jacques Thibaud, Edouard Risler, etc.. His first opera, Maria del Carmen, in 1898 earned him a royal consecration. Nevertheless, the following four operas, composed between 1901 and 1911, will have little success. In 1901, he founded the Academia Granados. Granados dedicated since then to piano teaching and piano performance. He was a teacher, among others, the composer Roberto Gerhard. If he continues his parallel career as a composer, he will not return as such on the front of the stage in 1911, thanks to the first performances of his piano suite Goyescas. The title of the CARRYING who assured his notoriety is a tribute to the painter Francisco Goya, Granados who felt a great admiration: "Goya is the engineering representative of Spain.
