Edward Kennedy Ellington was a pianist, composer and conductor born American April 29, 1899 in Washington, died May 24, 1974 in New York. It is one of the most important figures in jazz, or any American music. Indeed, it is considered one of the largest and most prolific composers of the twentieth century, who developed new ideas symphony based on the expression and intonation of jazz and blues to jazz and has left many standard. Ellington preferred to call his music "American music" rather than jazz. [Ref. needed] His band included musicians who were often regarded as the giants of jazz and remained in some cases for decades with him. Some of them were of interest by themselves, but it was mostly Ellington who turned them into one of the most famous orchestras of jazz history. He also recorded songs written by members of his orchestra, as "Caravan" and "Perdido" by Juan Tizol. After 1941 he frequently collaborates with composer and arranger Billy Strayhorn he calls his alter ego.
