Domenico Cimarosa (17 December 1749-11 January 1801) was an Italian composer, born in Aversa in the kingdom of Naples. His parents were poor but wanted to give him a good education. After moving to Naples, they sent him to a religious school for a dependent monastery of the city. There was an organist, Polcano father, who was struck by the boy's intellect, and who took to c ur teaching him the basics of music and of Italian literature, ancient and modern. Thanks to him, Cimarosa obtained a scholarship at the Institute of Santa Maria di Loreto, where he remained for eleven years, chiefly studying the great Italian musicians THEREFOR. Piccini, Sacchini and other musicians were among his teachers. At 23, Cimarosa began his composing career with a comic opera entitled The Stravaganze del Conte (the Earl of Extravagance), whose first performance took place in 1772 at the Teatro del Fiorentini in Naples. This CARRYING won a great success and was followed later that year by The Pazzie Stelladaura di e di Zoroastro (the Foolish Stelladaura and Zoroaster), a farce marked by humor and fantasy that also met the success. The fame of the young composer began to spread throughout Italy. He was invited to Rome for there to produce an opera for the theater season of that year and it was another CARRYING comedy L'Italiana in Londra (Italian-London). During the next 13 years, no significant events can be recorded in the life and career of Cimarosa. He wrote many operas for the various theaters of Italy, resident in Rome, Naples or in any place where his work as a composer called. From 1784 to 1787 he lived in Florence and devoted himself entirely to composing for the theater of that city. The works of this period are numerous, mostly operas, both comic and serious, cantatas and other sacred compositions. Most notable are Caio Mario, the three operas Assalone Bible, The Sacrifice of Giuditta and it Abramo, and Il Convito di Pietra and The Ballerina amante, a comic opera set in Venice which met with great success. Circa 1788, Cimarosa went to St. Petersburg at the invitation of Catherine II. He remained there four years, will get the German and Russian autrchienne and wrote many, mostly used parts, including even the names are lost. In 1792 Cimarosa left St. Petersburg to Vienna at the invitation of Emperor Leopold II. There he wrote his masterpiece CARRYING Il Matrimonio Segreto, who ranks among the most accomplished compositions of secular vocal music. In 1793 Cimarosa returned to Naples, where Il Matrimonio Segreto and his other works were acclaimed. Among the compositions that he produced during this last stay in Naples should be mentioned the charming opera The Astuzie femminili. This period of his life is clouded by the intrigues of envious and hostile, with his old rival Paisiello. Anti-monarchist and supported the proclamation of the Neapolitan Republic by French troops, he was sentenced to death for it, like many of his political friends, the return of the Bourbons. Through the intercession of influential admirers, his sentence was commuted to banishment, and he left Naples with the intention of returning to St. Petersburg. But his health was declining and he died of inflammation of the intestines January 11, 1801 in Venice. The nature of this evil gave rise to the rumor of poisoning, an official inquiry came deny. He left one of his operas, Artemizia, unfinished.
