Charles LECOCQ
Charles Lecocq is a French composer of operettas, comic operas and comic operas, was born in Paris June 3, 1832 and died in Paris October 24, 1918. Born into a poor family, he suffered from childhood from a disability that forced him to wear crutches all his life. He studied at the Paris Conservatory, along with Georges Bizet, with Halevy and Francois Bazin. He approached the genre of operetta on the occasion of a competition organized by Offenbach in 1856, he won the first prize tied with Bizet. This determined his career, which he now directed to such light, entertaining while very fashionable. He got his biggest hit in 1872 with La Fille de Madame Angot, which remains today one of the most represented works in the operatic repertoire.
