Carl Stephen HAMMER
Carl Hammer was born in Santa Monica, California and grew up immersed in music - from his Grandma playing on her beautiful Steinway baby grand piano, to his parents and family joyfully singing in church, and from observing the “El Primero Band Review” as a child - featuring marching bands from all over Southern California marching down Ocean Ave., to being taught by exceptionally skillful music educators in the public schools, and taking every advantage possible to experience and participate in all kinds of musical expression growing up. He studied music education at Brigham Young University and trombone performance at the University of Southern California. He works with musicians at all levels, from beginning to professional, as a conductor, performer, adjudicator and teacher. From the earliest days of studying piano at age 4, Carl playfully explored creating new music, and especially finding new ways of hearing old music. This skill proves useful when arranging and adapting music for the students and ensembles Carl works with. Carl finds great joy in arranging and composing music for solos, duos, small ensembles, concert-marching-jazz bands, choirs and orchestras.
