Anton BRUCKNER
Josef Anton Bruckner was born September 4, 1824 in Ansfelden, a small village in Upper Austria. It is the first child of Anton, schoolmaster and Therese Helm. Soon his parents detect the musical gifts of the child. At 10, he is able to replace his father in the parish organ. His parents sent him to complete his musical training with the cousin Weiss. The latter introduced him for nearly two years of music theory, harmony, organ. Bruckner tries his hand at that time already for improvisation on the organ. In 1837 his father died and he was taken by his mother at the Abbey of St. Florian. The boy spent three years in this peaceful. These mark the three years of his life and he always keeps a lot of piety and modesty. He received an especially solid general education and musical. He then prepares the entrance exam to the Ecole Normale of Linz. He is admitted and in 1841, he graduated assistant teacher. In 1843, he became close to the Abbey and can take courses from Schläger for choirs and Zenetti for keyboards. In 1845, he is a teacher holds. Once obtained this appointment, he became assistant to the parish school of St. Florian from 1845 to 1855 where he continues to follow the course of two professors and Schläger Zenetti. He composed some fifty works intended for liturgical celebrations. In 1851, he replaced Kattinger as organist at St. Florian. In 1855 he qualified as a teacher of primary education. He went to Vienna and arrives at the renowned organist Sechter. He then succeeded in the competition for admission to the post of organist at Linz Cathedral with a brilliant improvisation. He lives in Linz from 1855 to 1868. He approaches composition there in 1860 while following the course of Sechter. In 1861, he passed brilliantly the examination of the Vienna Conservatory and graduated as a Music Teacher. The revelation of the desire to compose Bruckner occurs in 1863 by attending a performance of Wagner's Tannhäuser. The shock made him call (after a first symphony in F dated 1862) Symphony in D minor of 1869 he called the latest "zero" (zero) considering it insufficient, then in quick succession, the Mass in D minor (1864), in E (1866) and F (1867). In October 1868, he sought a position as professor of organ, harmony and counterpoint at the Vienna Conservatory, where he replaces his former teacher died Sechter. The young Hans Rott particular, is his student. In 1869 he was invited to France for the opening of an organ to Nancy and delights of the organ builders who invite him to play at Notre Dame. He then in his public composers such as Franck, Saint-Saens, Gounod. it impresses with its improvised fugues. Two years later, he had the opportunity to be heard in London on the giant organ at the Royal Albert Hall. In 1872 he finished his second symphony in C minor (actually the third compound). It is now fifty years old and is still totally unknown as a composer of much that after his dedication of his Third Symphony to Wagner, it faces fierce opposition of Eduard Hanslick, the famous Viennese music critic , opposite the school with Brahms Wagner. In 1879, he composed a string quintet, their only practice of chamber music with a quartet in 1862. Bruckner knows his first triumph in Vienna with the Fourth Symphony "Romantic" in 1881, directed by Hans Richter. The international recognition is obtained only with the Seventh Symphony, the one with the sixth, he never subsequently revised. It was created in 1884 in Leipzig. In 1886, new success with the Te Deum that even Hanslick admired. In 1890, he was received by the Emperor in gratitude for the dedication of the Eighth Symphony, one of the longest in the directory. Unfortunately the composer's health is seriously deteriorating and tarnishes its early glory. In 1892 he went to Bayreuth to visit the grave of Wagner. He still has the opportunity to travel to Berlin in 1894 for performances of his works. His ninth symphony is still unfinished. The Master passed away in Vienna October 11, 1896. It rests at the entrance to the church of St. Florian, under the great organ. It was during earthworks undertaken to build the crypt that was discovered skeletons from 6000, probably, a battlefield at the time of the Huns. Thus, carefully lined up the skulls seem to admire, in absolute silence and impressive, the one that has been dubbed: Minstrel of God. The nine (actually eleven!) Symphonies (with the exception of the sixth and seventh) are revised several times during the composer's life because he doubts many of his abilities and is easily influenced. The scores are presented so often in different versions, including the numbers 3, 4 and 8. Leopold Nowak is working to restore the CARRYING of Musician in its authentic. Bruckner is to place among the greatest symphonic. His symphonies are characterized by the magnitude, brassy sound dominant, the use of the chorale and instrumental motifs from folklore Austrian. In Latin countries, it was long considered the practice of typical Austrian as Bruckner and, thereby, reserved for the ears Germanic or Anglo-Saxon. Bruckner's originality has earned her the growing enthusiasm of many music lovers and musicians. Moreover, it paves the way for Gustav Mahler (also his pupil in Vienna) for the audacity he displays exploring the limits of tonality, especially in his Ninth Symphony. As such, Anton Bruckner deserves to be among the largest in the history of symphonic music. The spiritual depth of his book, including various slow movements of his symphonies, leaves no music lover and insensitive language comprehension Brucknerian adds an extra dimension to the knowledge of the musical spectrum.
