Vincent SCOTTO
Vincent Scotto, born April 21, 1876 in Marseilles, and died November 15, 1952 in Paris, was a French composer. He debuted as a singer in Marseilles in 1906, accompanying himself on guitar. One of his earliest compositions was adapted by Christiné to become a successful Polin: The Little Tonkinoise. With this reputation, he went to Paris. This was the beginning of a prolific output and quality, like: I have two loves, Prosper, The Trumpet of wood, Marinella, The Most Beautiful Tango World, Under the Bridges of Paris. Tino Rossi owes many of its successes. Vincent Scotto is not only the author of 4000 songs. He also wrote 60 operettas, sung by Alibert, Paulette Merval, Marcel Merkes. The series of "Marseilles operettas" on Sarvil books (including the Canebière A), has done much to spread to Paris, if not worldwide, a certain image of Marseille and the south, sometimes caricatured. Its current popularity is also due to the many he composed music for film. There are no fewer than 200 films to his credit, including those of his friend Marcel Pagnol. This gave him even the title role in 1934 Jofroi. He died in Paris at the age of 76, one year before the creation of his latest work, The Lovers of Venice, at the Mogador Theater. Since 1948, Vincent Scotto Prize is awarded annually by SACEM to reward the best song that has proved popular in the years. Google machine translation: Vincent SCOTTO's original bio |
