Leroy ANDERSON
Leroy Anderson (29 giugno 1908 - 18 maggio 1975) è stato un compositore statunitense di brevi brani da concerto di luce, molti dei quali sono stati creati dalla Boston Pops Orchestra diretta da Arthur Fiedler. John Williams lo ha descritto "come uno dei più grandi maestri americani di musica leggera orchestrale". Nato a Cambridge, Massachusetts da genitori svedesi, Leroy Anderson ricevuto le sue prime lezioni di pianoforte da sua madre che era organista. Ha continuato le sue lezioni di pianoforte da Henry Gideon presso il New England Conservatory of Music, e ha preso più lezioni di basso con Gaston Dufresne a Boston. Nel 1926 Anderson è entrato ad Harvard, dove ha studiato teoria con Walter Spalding, contrappunto con Edward Ballantine, armonia con la George Enescu e composizione con Walter Piston, si laurea con un Bachelor of Arts nel 1929 e il suo Master of Arts nel 1930. Nell'agosto del 1946, ha composto la famosa canzone "Sleigh Ride" (pezzo per le vacanze e il giorno di Natale), durante un'ondata di caldo. Meco, un famoso musicista di epoca disco, lo ha insignito nel suo album Hooked On Instrumentals, il medley intitolato Hooked On Leroy Anderson.
