Billy STRAYHORN
William Thomas Strayhorn, dit Billy Strayhorn, est un compositeur, arrangeur et pianiste américain (né le 29 novembre 1915 à Dayton dans l'Ohio et mort le 31 mai 1967 à New York). De 1939 à sa mort, il collabore avec Duke Ellington créant arrangements et mélodies, entre autres Take The A Train, Lush Life, Chelsea Bridge et Passion Flower, pour étoffer le répertoire de l' orchestre. Il accompagne fréquemment au piano les petites formations issues de l'orchestre, et enregistre aussi sous son nom. Véritable alter ego du Duke, son style est souvent très proche de celui du maître, tant au niveau des arragements qu'au piano. Au cours des années 1950, son style pianistique devient plus original. Il montre notamment un toucher très délicat. |
