The Savoyards of Consterno and Desaix
The Savoyards is the national anthem of Savoy. It was sung for the first time in Chambery 1856. Freedom expressed through this hymn evokes refuge in Savoy
proscribed by the coup of Louis Napoleon Bonaparte (1851). The lyrics were written by Joseph Desaix. The music is due to the head of Sardinian military band and was re-orchestrated by Consterno Viot with drum and bugle. Associated with Alpine Hunters Battalions created and structured 1886, Song of the Savoyards illustrates this recent weapon of mountain troops considerably strengthened by the necessities of the War 1914-1918. Proud of their traditions, wearing blue and cherry pie, scrolling to no hunter, the bands of hunters and their horns are sounding the Savoyards and Sidi Brahim, another hymn Hunters.
