He began studying piano at eight years with teachers from the provinces, before becoming, in 1890, a student of José Trago, a pianist of high. He gets a prize after, from 1896 to 1898, student at the Royal Conservatory of Madrid. In 1904 he wrote A Brief Life, sort of exercise to complete his short instrument training with Felipe Pedrell. He is living in France (1907-1914) where he is a friend of Debussy, Ravel, Albéniz. His Four Pieces Spanish are published in Paris in 1908, and in 1910, his Three Songs (on texts by Théophile Gautier). He returned to Spain after contracting a venereal disease, and wrote the first version of El amor brujo in 1915 and in 1917 the Tricorn is successfully created in London two years later by the Ballets Russes of Serge Diaghilev. But he gets tired a lot as a result of his illness, and his perfectionism made him lose a lot of time and strength. After the Spanish Civil War, he left for Argentina. He will live badly until his death in heart of the Sierra Alta Gracia. His other works we can mention are Nights in the Gardens of Spain (1921), for piano and orchestra; The Altarpiece of Master Peter (1922), chamber opera, his Concerto for harpsichord and five instruments (1923-1926) dedicated to Wanda Landowska. Falla wrote no more after that date that works for the occasion (for the tomb of Paul Dukas for solo piano, 1935) and is dedicated to a cantata on a poem by Verdaguer there Santalo, Atlantis (unfinished and completed by Ernesto Halffter). All his music, to varying degrees, is marked by his native Spain, and more or less recognizable by the resumption of clever folk themes, however, more during his Paris period and right after, than in the rest of his works.
