Carl Maria VON WEBER
Carl Maria Friedrich Ernst von Weber (November 18, 1786 at Eutin, near Lübeck - June 5, 1826 in London) was a German composer of classical music. His actual birth date is confusing: his father was born Dec. 18 claimed and baptized the 20, but the baptismal certificate, which indicates on November 20, inclined to believe the native November 18. Only a careful reading of the parish register, and the succession of different acts, would almost certainly decide. Carl was a sickly child with an inherited disease of the hip joint that prevented him from walking before the age of four. He traveled extensively. He taught voice and piano early. In 1798, Michael Haydn gave him free lessons in Salzburg. In March of that year his mother died. In April, the family visited Vienna, settling in Munich in the fall. Here he made his first compositions, six fugues, a Mass and an opera Die Macht der Liebe und des Weins, since destroyed. A set of variations for the pianoforte composed a little later was lithographed by Carl himself, under the advice of Aloys Senefelder, the inventor of the process, for which he and his father showed great interest. In 1800, the family went to Freiburg in Breisgau, where the knight von Steinsberg published the libretto of an opera called Das Waldmädchen, in which the boy, although not yet fourteen, was produced in November City Theatre. Representation was not a success and the composer himself later said it was a THEREFOR "very immature", but then it was produced in Chemnitz and even in Vienna. Carl returned with his father in Salzburg in 1801, continuing his studies under the direction of Michael Haydn. There he composed his second opera, Peter Schmoll und seine Nachbarn, which was produced unsuccessfully in Nuremberg in 1803. He was placed under the direction of Father Vogler who, after a year, admitted him as choirmaster at the municipal theater of Breslau. However his life was disturbed, he contracted debts and lost his beautiful voice accidentally by drinking acid used in lithography, which almost put him to death. He began a new opera called Rubezahl, whose libretto is "romantic" in the highest degree. He worked with enthusiasm but it was never completed and was not preserved beyond a quintet and openness, which, rewritten in 1811 under the title Der der Geister Beherrscher, is one of his best works. Leaving Breslau in 1806, he became music director at the court of Grand Duke of Baden in Karlsruhe. From 1807 to 1810, in Stuttgart, he was secretary of Prince Louis along with a music teacher of young princesses. The giddiness of the father in a financial matter and his intimacy with Margarethe Land, an opera singer, he lost his duties and both were banished. On February 27, 1810 they begin a new life in Mannheim. Having acquired a comfortable home to his father, and started a new comic opera in one act called Abu Hassan, Carl moved to Darmstadt to be near his old master and his Father Vogler classmates and Meyerbeer Gansbacher. On September 16, 1810 he produced Sylvana at Frankfort-on-Main, but with very limited success. Abu Hassan was completed in Darmstadt in January 1811, after many interruptions. It was in 1811 in Darmstadt, born as one of the fundamental romantic works of the repertoire of the clarinet, the first clarinet concerto by Weber (F minor, opus 73). Concerto No. 2 in E flat, op. 74 is, in turn, made November 25, 1811. The two concertos will be published only much later, in 1822. He began a tour in February, during which he befriended many influential people, and obtained a success in Munich in June. His father died in 1812 in Mannheim. In 1813 he was appointed Kapellmeister in Prague National, a position he held successfully until autumn 1816. During this period he composed no new operas, but he had already written most of his best works for the pianoforte, and the troubled state of Europe the inspiration for some of the best patriotic melodies. Foremost among these are the last ten songs of Korner Leyer und Schwerdt including "Vater, ich dich cunning" and "Lutzow's wilde Jagd" and the same level, the PS cores splendid in his cantata Kampf und Sieg, which was presented the first time in Prague, December 22, 1815. Weber resigned from his post in Prague in September 1816 and on 1 December, the King of Saxony Frederick Augustus appointed him Kapellmeister at the Dresden Opera. Italian operas were given to the court supervised Morlacchi, whose jealous and intriguing caused him many troubles. The king, however, placed both chapel masters on the same level of title and salary, and Weber found ample opportunity to practice his remarkable skills of organization and control. He devoted his attention to the precise history of Robin Hood (Der Freischütz) he had first thought turned into an opera, and, with the assistance of Friedrich Kind, he produced an admirable libretto under the title The Jagers Braut. No subject could have been better suited to serve as a vehicle for the new art form that was romantic opera. He had dealt with the supernatural in Rubezahl, and, Sylvana, with the label and ceremonies of chivalry, but personifications of ghostly Rubezahl are hardly less human than heroin, which invokes the. He married the singer Carolina Brandt, a woman with a noble attitude and a good artist, paying him his efforts to educate. He also made the music of gypsy drama Preciosa Wolff. Following the political difficulties in Dresden, it was agreed that Preciosa and Der Freischütz would be produced in Berlin. In February 1821, Sir Julius Benedict was accepted as a student by Weber. We owe him the stories of the first rehearsals and performances. Weber was very quiet. It was a triumph, and in Vienna, Oct. 3, and Dresden, January 26, 1822. However, its position as choirmaster was not improved. He refused tempting proposals to Berlin and Cassel, and in the latter city it was Ludwig Spohr, who obtained this position much better than his. For his next opera Weber accepted a libretto by Wilhelmine von Chezy, based on the story of Euryanthe as told in the thirteenth century by the Roman de la Violette Gilbert de Montreuil, and repeated changes in the "Decameron" the Cymbeline of Shakespeare, and other posterior. Instead of ghostly horrors of Der Freischütz, the romantic element was provided by the chivalrous manners of the Middle Ages. The recitatives were more elaborate than earlier in his book. It was actually a prototype of the grand opera that would be perfected fifty years later by Wagner in Lohengrin. This is one of the first German opera without spoken dialogue, with an attempted fusion of the arts. Tovey said that the Wagnerian music drama is much more advanced than in Lohengrin (See. J. Warrack). A living picture in a crypt added to the atmosphere. The title role was entrusted to Henriette Sontag. The third and final head-to THEREFOR was Oberon, an English opera written in 1826 for the Covent Garden Theatre with a libretto adapted by White Wieland. He was disfigured by the spoken dialogue abandoned in Euryanthe, but in musical beauty, it is equal. Fairies and mermaids are, in a striking manner, as real as the spectra in Der Freischütz. He died of tuberculosis in London. Google machine translation: Carl Maria VON WEBER's original bio |
